BVI– ISLAND SHOPPING:
Shopping in the BVI is simple and fun! Most of your island stops have a gift shops attached to a beach bar/restaurant. Conquer your shopping in 5-10 minutes and then you are done and off to explore or just sit back and enjoy the island view with a rum punch or painkiller! Shopping in the BVI is so simple even the guys enjoy it! You can expect local craft, souvenir and t-shirt type shopping with an occasional stop offering nice jewelry or brand name attire. Here are a few of our favorites!
TORTOLA–Don’t miss stopping at Soper’s Hole Marina for a fun little shopping experience. Soper’s Hole actually offers a number of shops. Latitude 18 is one of our favorites which has Billabong, Roxy brand and island flare clothing for men, women’ and children. They also have Oakley and Maui Jim sunglasses if you need to pick up some good shades along your travels to replace the ones you lost jumping off Willy T’s! A few steps away you can hit Arawak Designs Boutique and Gift Shop for boutique clothing and swimsuit attire. Nanny Cay offers a similar shopping experience if it fits better into your sailing route!
JOST VAN DYKE–Foxy’s has a large gift shop that you will want to be sure to hit! If you blew out your flip-flops, no worries! Foxy’s has you covered with some stylish Sketchers, Reef or whatever you need to replace the old! And, of course you’ll want to take home some Soggy Dollar wear as a memory of your island visit. If you plan to spend the day on this beautiful white sand beach Chillaxin’ in a beach chair, we recommend purchasing Soggy’s authentic Tervis Tumbler and asking the bartender to make your drinks in it so they stay cold and fresh! After Soggy Dollar, stroll down White Beach and you’ll find Gertrude’s Beach Bar & Boutique and Wendell’s World Gift Shop and Shenique’s Gift Shop.
VIRGIN GORDA–We think Leverick Bay Marina offers the best Virgin Gorda shopping. Here you will find another Pusser’s Gift Shop and an Arawak Boutique! If you don’t make it to Leverick, Saba Rock and the Bitter End each have their own gift shops. Beware of Bitter End prices though!
PETER ISLAND–Peter Island Resort Gift Shops will give you some upscale options for caribbean island clothing and swimwear.
SCRUB ISLAND–If you like the Desigual brand, you need to stop at Scrub and check out their gift shop! They have a nice variety of Desigual dresses and purses and you might even find a bargain on the sale rack! There is also a Dive Shop on the marina in case you need to pick up your own snorkeling gear.
ANEGADA–Most of your Anegada shopping can be done within walking distance from the dingy dock at Potters by Sea Restaurant. Grab a cold one and take a leisurely stroll through the shops. Our favorite is the Purple Turtle Boutique & Gifts which you can walk to from Potters. Or, if you plan to spend the day on Anegada, arrange an open air taxi (usually $20/person for the day), and the taxi will be able to take you to each end of the island. The Big Bamboo at Loblolly doesn’t have much of a gift shop to boast about, but you will still enjoy the experience here! Hopefully you’ll be able to time it right for a little fire-juggling show by a local who will also burn a saying onto a piece of driftwood for you that you can then nail up onto the bar or take home with you. Cow Wreck recently expanded their gift shop into a new building and offers some FUN logo wear to remember your visit on the beautiful Cow Wreck beach!
**Tip–Surprise your crew with a little gift when you return from shopping. Even though they are living the island dream life, they don’t often purchase for themselves but appreciate a logo hat, shirt or island memory just as much as the guests!
Shopping in the USVI offers a little more upscale stores because they are catering to the cruise ship visitors. Be careful of your timing for shopping though. Cruise ship “dumps” can cause crowded shops and higher prices!
ST. THOMAS–If you are looking for brand names or high end jewelry, St. Thomas has the premier shopping and Yacht Haven Grande is your place. Find out what they have to offer at The Shops At Yacht Haven Grande
ST. JOHN–Never miss a chance to stop off at St. John! Mongoose Junction is quaint little shopping area for you to stroll around. You could spend a few hours here and also find some fine dining, a local tap and local entertainment to cap it off! If you are on St. John, you MUST visit the St. John Spices store! You’ll find it just off the ferry dock at Cruz Bay in the Wharfside Village, a popular area to shop. Stock up and we guarantee you’ll need to make an online order to replenish your favorite St. John spices before you know it!
SHOPPING ON THE OTHER CARIBBEAN ISLANDS:
Shopping on some of the other Caribbean Islands is more commercialized and main stream. If you want to spend you island times in stores finding the latest fashions, you will be able to do it!
BAHAMAS–You can follow the Shopping in Bahamas guide for your roadmap to the stylish boutiques to open-air markets to straw vendors or even large retail centers.
ST. BARTHS–St. Barts is a shopping paradise for top luxury brands and you might even see some famous peeps along the way! To find your guide to chic, walk the luxury streets of St. Barts.
ST. MAARTEN–Another popular cruise ship shopping port, so be watch your timing, but be prepared to negotiate some deals as you find some treasures!
